Standing Out

Standing out at a formal event, where all of the attendees are dressed to the nines and wearing fancy, flourished clothing for the duration, can be quite hard. If you don’t think of yourself as someone who stands out naturally, who can walk into a room and have the attention turn to them as easy as breathing, you can think of formal events as quite daunting, and more trouble than they’re worth.

It’s time to break yourself out of your shell a little bit more, and make sure you’ve got something to say and a lot of stage presence to flash even when there are quite a few suits and ties crowding around you.

It’s Not All About the Outfit

This is the first thing to realise – when you walk into a room, not everyone in there will notice your outfit first of all. They’re going to notice you; your eyes, your hair, your presence, the way you carry yourself, etc. But most of all, they’re NOT going to notice how nervous you’re feeling, and more importantly, they’re not going to care too much about it.

After all, only you can tell exactly what you’re feeling. And when you take a deep breath and steel yourself to walk in with your shoulders high, you really can fake that self-assured feeling you really wish you had more of. Keep it up, and you’ll soon be feeling a bit more confident about your chances for having a good, and noticeably fashionable, night ahead.

But Make Sure Your Outfit Fits Well

Of course, the outfit is going to matter at least a little bit, right? Yes, and because of that, it;s important to make sure whatever you’re wearing fits you well, and compliments your natural shape and tone. We can think of outfits as wearing us, and not the other way around, and when your suit is shaped just right, you’re going to look the epitome of this statement.

Take yourself off to the right shop, which you might just be able to find down your local high street – a tailor’s. Even if you’re lacking in this shopping department, you can always head online, to somewhere like Colmore Tailors, to make sure you’ve got at least an idea for what to invest in for the big night. A bespoke outfit is usually the best way to go!

And Make Eye Contact and Smile

A small final point, but a crucial one nonetheless. The more you smile, and the more you can maintain eye contact, the better. At formal events, people like to know you’re listening; when you show that absolute attentiveness, the other guests are going to like you a lot more (if that’s what you want!).

It’s time to break the mould. It’s time to stand out.
