government hooker: mugler womenswear at paris fashion week x formichetti w/ lady gaga

[UPDATE] Here is an mp3 link to the snippet of the track Government Hooker that was previewed at the show. Worth noting this probably isn’t the clean final edit that is made for the album and was edited especially for the show.

Thanks to the signing of Nicola Formichetti to Thierry Mugler, the label has been propelled into the Digital Fashion Era at a faster pace than many of its competitors. The support and collaborations with Lady Gaga has clearly helped the label greatly in this area too.

You will have (hopefully) all seen the Mugler menswear show, previews, catwalkt images etc. featuring Rick/Rico (Zombie Boy) Genest, not to mention the outstanding Lady Gaga remix video by Mariano Vivanco of Sheiße from the Born This Way album, due to drop on May 23.

Tonight’s show took the collaboration to a whole different level and featured Lady Gaga walking for the brand, accompanied by a live stream from Mugler’s Facebook page. The wait was intense (45 minutes), but you got to see Terry Richardson and Anna Wintour in a somewhat real and unsuspecting environment.

The soundtrack? A melange of Sheiße, Born this way and preview to Government Hooker, another track from one of this year’s most anticipated albums.

The show itself? Amazing. The looks? Incredible. Gaga? A supermodel that doesn’t falter. In so many ways. The new track? Off the wall. My faith in the album? Restored. Oh and Rico Genest was there too.

Mugler’s brand awareness has ROCKETED this year, let’s hope that sales and growth are sustained from the left field and cleverly expressive French brand. No doubt they will be.

Although I think it’s great for Mugler’s exposure, I find it a pity that the show is more about Gaga than the actual collection. I would have hoped the return of such a cult house would have been enough publicity for itself. Also, Formichetti is a stylist, not a designer. Sébastien Peigné and Romain Kremer are the talented designers overshadowed by Gaga’s appearance.
